Wheel Alignment

“My car is pulling to one side.”

8:30 AM–6:00 PM, seven days a week 8632 Edgeworth Dr, Capitol Heights, MD 20743

What You May Be Noticing

You notice you are holding the wheel slightly off-center to go straight, or the car drifts toward the shoulder if you loosen your grip. Sometimes the steering wheel is visibly crooked even though the car tracks straight.

Around here, potholes and rough pavement are usually the cause. It does not take a dramatic impact to knock the alignment out, and the change is gradual enough that most drivers adapt to it without realizing.

What YBE Checks and Repairs

Before adjusting anything, we inspect the parts that alignment depends on. Aligning a car with a worn tie rod end or a loose ball joint is wasted work, because the angles will not stay where they are set.

Then we measure the actual alignment angles against the manufacturer specification and adjust what is adjustable on your vehicle. Camber, caster and toe each affect the car differently, and toe is usually what is eating your tires.

We also look at the tire wear pattern, because it tells us how long this has been going on and whether anything besides alignment is contributing.

Common Warning Signs

  • The car pulls to the left or right on a flat road
  • Steering wheel off-center while driving straight
  • Tire wear heavier on the inside or outside edge
  • Uneven or feathered tread across a tire
  • The car feels loose or wanders at highway speed
  • You just hit a significant pothole or curb

What This May Include

  • Suspension and steering component inspection first
  • Tire condition and wear-pattern assessment
  • Measurement of alignment angles against factory specification
  • Adjustment of camber, caster and toe where adjustable
  • Steering-wheel centering
  • Road test to confirm the car tracks straight

Why This Should Not Wait

Bad alignment is quietly expensive because it destroys tires. A set of tires can be worn out in a fraction of their normal life by an alignment that is only slightly off.

It also affects how the car behaves in an emergency stop or a sudden lane change, which matters more than the everyday annoyance of a crooked wheel.
